Lindsay McMahon
"The English Adventurer"

While Lindsay was on her cross-country trip she stopped into a brewery in Bend, Oregon.

She sat down at the bar and a few minutes later Brian sat down next to her.

Lindsay started a conversation with Brian about craft beer.

Later, she learned more and more about him.

She found out that he was an inventor in the United States and that he had been famous at one point for his inventions.

Lindsay realized that Brian is a genius.

Throughout history geniuses have always struggled with personal challenges that come from being on the outside of society.

This is also what allows them to create their works of art or inventions.

In our new course we feature a lesson that is based on Lindsay’s interview with Brian.

What do you learn in this lesson?

  • What it means to be a creative genius in American culture
  • How mental illness is looked at by Americans
  • Listening skills for fast native conversations (identifying specific things you hear)
  • How to talk about a famous inventor in your country in English
  • How to present ideas in English that you gather from your own research
