Congratulations to 3 Keys student Saeideh, who just got an overall 8 on her recent IELTS Exam!
Also, thank you to the subscriber who asked today’s question. This person asked if they should write ‘2020’ or use a comma in IELTS Listening.
You should use the comma and write ‘2,020’. (Don’t put a comma if it is a year, though!)
Also, if the answer requires a unit of measurement, like kilometers, you can just use the abbreviation of ‘km’.
However, don’t abbreviate anything else.

In addition, if the answer requires a symbol, like $, just put the symbol, and don’t spell out the word ‘dollars’.
These rules also apply to Academic Writing Task 1– don’t spell out symbols, such as % or $, and always have those symbols before every number they apply to.
You can, likewise, abbreviate units of measurement, like km.
However, in Task 2, do not abbreviate or use contractions. You must still use the currency and percent symbols, though.
In our online IELTS course, 3 Keys IELTS, we give you all the strategies and practice you need to score highly on all parts of the IELTS exam.
