Today you’ll find out how templates are only 50% of your Writing score on the IELTS Exam.
First of all, templates are necessary for your Task 2 essay.
You must have a map, and then you just fill in your own ideas.
Many students worry that these memorized transition phrases will bring down their score.
Even natives memorize outlines and impressive phrases to structure their writing.
Templates give you high-scoring linking phrases, including excellent vocabulary, for higher scores in Cohesion/Coherence and Vocabulary.
Also, though, you need to know where to put your ideas.
This is where you come in- you have to bring in your own specific ideas and impressive vocabulary.
The phrases in our templates are a great start for a high vocabulary score, but they’re not enough.
You need to surround them with your own impressive phrases in order to fulfill requirements for a 7+.

When you use our Insider Method you avoid the BIGGEST MISTAKES that most students make on IELTS.
An even bigger responsibility of IELTS candidates is to bring strong, detailed ideas for any topic.
These must be developed during your preparation in the month or two before the exam.
That’s why our study plans in 3 Keys IELTS provide you with resources that you must read, watch and listen to so you have a lot to speak and write about, no matter the question.
Another skill that you must improve on your own is spelling.
Even if you have an essay that’s full of incredible vocabulary, if you spell more than a few words wrong, than you can’t get a 7 or higher for Vocabulary.
You can keep improving your vocabulary and spelling knowledge by, again, reading, watching and listening widely.
Also, you should be keeping a spelling list.
All of this advice is proven, the necessity of templates and preparation, by our student Leticia, who got an 8 on her IELTS Writing test.
