Today you’ll learn how Pia controls her IELTS prep, and how this student also positively tackles her anxiety.

Pia controls IELTS prep

Pia, a 3 Keys student, is very impressive and inspirational!

She’s taking IELTS just to challenge herself, and this intrinsic motivation is refreshing!

Pia wrote the winning essay this month for our Writing Wizard contest.

One reason why her essay stood out so impressively was her high-level vocabulary.

She notes that the course has guided her here, encouraging her to watch BBC news every morning, read more, and enjoy more TV programs, like The Big Bang Theory.

Regarding the news, Pia points out that the newscasters repeat the same words over and over again, aiding her brain in absorbing more advanced lexis.

But that’s only the first step! In order to really learn the vocab., you must use it. Pia says she talks to herself a lot, focusing on producing the language she heard natives utilize.

The essay question this month was:

In the past, it was common for households to hold many generations in one house, but, today, it’s not the norm.

What caused this shift?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

An additional feature which led her essay to win, was her strong, specific support. These impressive ideas mostly come from her extra reading and listening, including audio books.

For instance, in her essay, she wrote:

According to official statistics in Chile, from 1930 to 2016, the mortality rate for infectious illnesses has declined by 55%, and the main reason is that now it is more common to utilize one house per family.

Although this statistic is made up, it’s based in reality.

She notes that the Anti-Anxiety Module in the 3 Keys course has really helped her.

From these lessons, she’s learned to put her anxiety in the back seat, placing herself in the driver’s seat of control. You can recognize the emotion, examine it, and then distance yourself from it.

As to the Personal Coach sessions Pia’s taken with Jessica, one activity that she was recommended was to take one Part 2 card and practice it 3 times, to improve fluency.

For Writing, she learned how important it was to include extensive details and examples in order to get a 7+ on her exam.

Her final recommendation for IELTS students is to use the app Blinkist!
