Today you’ll learn how to proofread for 3 things to raise Writing scores on your next IELTS Exam.

It’s really difficult to correct your own writing. If you have access to an IELTS professional, definitely utilize that opportunity!

Proofreading is the last step of your writing process. It’s necessary. In fact, checking your work and making some corrections can increase your Vocabulary and Grammar scores!

We need to divide our attention while writing. First, in brainstorming, you need to think of all the ideas you want to put in your essay.

Then, when you write, you only have to think about organization and expressing your ideas. If you’re using the 3 Keys template, then you already know exactly how to organize your ideas and what linking phrases to use.

Finally, in the last stage, you proofread.

Overall, you should check for 3 things:

Repeated vocabulary

Especially look for words you copied from the test question and may have used repetitively. If you see a lot of repetition, you must paraphrase!

Furthermore, definitely don’t use words from the question that you don’t understand!

Easy words

Do not use ‘easy’ words in your Academic writing. Words such as good, bad, and a lot should not be used in your essays.

Use high-level, academic words and phrases.

Verb tense

You can’t look for everything at once. So, try to figure out the one grammar mistake you often make, such as verb tense, and proofread for only that.

This is something we do in our Personal Coach sessions, where I tell students what they should proofread for in their own essays to increase their Writing scores.
