There are 4 specific things you can do to impress the examiner in Speaking Part 2.
Do you know how to increase your score in this part of the IELTS exam?
1. Interesting Part 2 Introduction
Don’t say the same thing as every other IELTS candidate– namely, “Today, I am going to talk about…”
There is a video on the IELTS Energy TV YouTube channel about exactly how to do this.
You can show you are a step above all the other students right away. Prove to the examiner immediately that you are not a “6 student”, but that you are above that.
You can say something like, “When I saw this topic, one story immediately came to mind.”
2. Organize Your 2-Minute Speech
Two minutes can feel like a long time to talk. To impress the examiner, you must organize the two-minute speech coherently, and not repeat yourself. You also cannot run out of ideas and stop talking.
The easiest way to do this is to tell a story. You can search our YouTube channel, and our podcasts, for more advice and examples of telling a story on IELTS Part 2.
A vital part of giving an organized and fluent answer is taking good notes. There is also a video on the YouTube channel about that.
3. Use Your Notes
While you are answering, use your notes! That’s why they’re there! Don’t stare at them the whole time, of course, but it is perfectly fine to glance down from time to time.
However, having said that, do not make the mistake of reading from the topic card while you are answering. This shows a lack of fluency and coherence.
4. Don’t Stop Talking
Basically, you must talk until the examiner stops you. In Speaking Part 2, you must talk for the whole 2 minutes to score highly for fluency.
In our online IELTS course, 3 Keys IELTS, we give you all the strategies you need to score highly on all parts of the IELTS Exam.
