Could you fill 2 minutes coherently and fluently if given this topic card?
This video is answering a request by a subscriber to our YouTube Channel, IELTS Energy TV. This student asked for an example about how to answer this difficult IELTS Speaking Part 2 question.
I can see why this is challenging! How do you talk about a season for two minutes in an organized, natural way?
First, you need a strategy. Follow this when you take notes for one minute before talking.
The strategy to follow is:
- Describe the season
- Talk about what it means to you / why you like it
- Tell a story related to this season
Always answer the question directly first; hence, describing the appearance and changes of the seasons is what you talk about right away.
Then, talk about what this season means to you, and how it makes you feel.
Finally, tell a personal story that took place in this season.
In today’s video, I had to talk for more than 2 minutes to fit in the story! However, I wanted to provide you with an example for that last step of telling a story.
Remember, you want the examiner to interrupt you at two minutes. This shows that you can speak fluently for a long time, and you have enough vocabulary to do so.
My sample answer is about the Fall. I describe all the changes to foliage and weather in Portland, Oregon, and describe how lovely I feel at this time. The short story is about the run I took with my dog in the rain, and how gorgeous and invigorating it felt.
