Today you’ll hear an IELTS sample part 2 answer, describing an occasion with special cake.
In the last video, we talked about the Speaking Part 2 strategy called before/during/after.
This is when you extend your fluency for two minutes by talking about what happened before the time or event, during the time or event, and after the time or event was finished.
Today, I’ll talk for two minutes about a recent occasion in which I enjoyed cake with my best friend.
Here are the notes used for this answer:
Occasion: Chocolate cake with my best friend Meghan at Bridge City
Before: I worked all day from the time I woke up, recorded 4 podcasts, taught 4 classes

During: Met at nearby Bridge City restaurant. I had Reese’s Peanut Butter chocolate cake, Megs had salted caramel. The U.S. vs. Trinidad/Tobago soccer game was on. We got knocked out of the World Cup this year.
After: When home, collapsed on the couch and watched one of my favorite movies, Aliens, and ate popcorn.
Remember that organizing your answer chronologically, or by time, is the best and easiest way to provide a clearly communicated response.
This is why we encourage you to tell a story in Part 2 for higher Fluency/Coherence and Vocabulary scores.
