How do you feel about the end of this year, starting a new year?

Do you ever look back at your successes and challenges in a year?

You may not know how to talk about your challenges, but we’re going to help you with that.

Here’s a question that talks about challenges and may be how you think about them.

I’m a regular listener, and I have a question.

What is the difference between “Dare” and ” Challenge”?  When do I use one or another? I find this to be very confusing, so I could really use your help.

Thank you very much!

Time Flies and Challenges Come and Go

It’s always amazing at how quickly the year flies by.

This makes for a great time to reflect on the year that you’ve just had.

Every year has it’s challenges and successes, and that’s part of life.

We’re going to focus today on what challenges are and how you handle them.

Since we’ve previously talked about dares, we won’t get too much into it.

For the purposes of answering the question above, a dare is something that tends to be kind of risky or even silly.

You might think of the game “Truth or Dare” or you might think of somebody daring somebody to do something ridiculous.

Challenges Are A Part of Life

So we’re going to focus more on what a challenge is and why it matters.

Challenge in the same way is to do something risky, but it’s a bit more formal and serious.

You might challenge your child to get straight A’s in a semester.

Also, a challenge as a noun can be something difficult you do.

It can also be something difficult in life you have to overcome.

“It’s a challenge to exercise every day, but I’m going to do it”

Challenging is used to describe something difficult.

“Waking up at 6am is challenging, but I have to do it to get to work on time.”

How Do We Face Challenges?

We tend to think of challenges when we reflect upon a year or looking back at an experience.

What challenges did you have in 2018?

What did you do to overcome them?

Challenges are a part of life, but it’s all about what you do to overcome them.

It’s About What You Do To Push Through

Challenges happen, particularly over the course of a year.

It’s about deciding if you are up to the challenge.

  • Up to the challenge: This means that you can take on the challenge, and that you feel ready for it.

“Are you up to the challenge of running a marathon in 2019?”

  • Challenge someone/something: This means that you will question someone or make someone work hard.

“I challenge you to learn 5 new words in another language a day”

“I challenged him to give me a better answer. I didn’t think he had a good enough excuse.”

There are many different ways to challenge somebody or to feel challenged.

It’s about learning to face challenges head on and turn them into a positive experiences.

Positive Quotes About Challenges

Challenges are of course always seen as negative.

Though they can leave you feeling frustrated, they can also be opportunities to start anew or take things on to become stronger.

We leave you in 2018 with the following quotes about challenges:

-”The challenge of life, I have found, is to build a resume that doesn’t simply tell a story about what you want to be, but it’s a story about who you want to be”- Oprah Winfrey

-”If you live a life of make-believe, your life isn’t worth anything until you do something that challenges your reality.(And to me sailing the open ocean is a real challenge because it’s life or death.”) – Morgan Freeman

-”The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help”- Kate Middleton

-”I’m always looking for a new challenge. There are a lot of mountains to climb out there. When I run out of mountains, I’ll build a new one.” -Sylvester  Stalone
