Staying In Touch Is So Important

Have you been keeping in touch with people lately?

Lindsay did an Instagram video awhile back asking for ways to stay in touch with people, and she got some great suggestions!

Though some of these suggestions and ideas came out due to the pandemic and quarantine, these can hold true at anytime.

Even if you have a lot going on in life, you can still focus on any of these to keep in touch with loved ones.

One thing you may have noticed is that when staying in, you might have kept in touch with friends more than usual.

Though staying in can be hard and take a lot out of you, it’s important to remember to keep in touch with your loved ones.

You can still maintain our closeness even in other times when we work from home or live far away from our friends and/or family.

Why is it important to think about maintaining and building a connection with people when you don’t see them?

It is so good for our mental health, and when you feel down this may be what gives you a much needed lift.

You may find that this helps you to keep learning and use the language in a meaningful way.

We see the good in people and have the desire to do good for others, and therefore keeping in touch and staying connected is so very important.

You recognize that it’s important, and now you need to find the best ways to connect with those that really matter to you in your life.

Ways To Stay Connected

Sometimes you just need to consider the various ways of staying connected.

If you want to stay connected, then you want to come up with some ideas to make that happen.

Some of the ideas may be more creative in nature, and some may be based on doing the things you like to do.

Here are a few ideas that can help you to stay connected in a fun and meaningful way.

Friends and Family

  • Host a game night: You might pick a game that you can do even remotely such as Pictionary. If you can get together in person then game night works really well. Even if you are on a Zoom call you could play a game together. Something like House Party is a good idea and way of interacting in a fun way too!
  • Have a “Happy Hour”: You can easily pull this off remotely if you plan for it. Set up a call at a certain time and then everyone has a glass of wine or has dinner together. This doesn’t take much in the way of planning, but it’s a great way to connect with one another and enjoy good conversation.
  • Send gifts: Just because you’re far apart, this doesn’t have to stop! It’s nice to reach out anytime and it can be a card or a gift. The idea is to let them know that you’re thinking of them.
  • Book Club or TV/Movie Club: You work together to pick a book, or a TV show or movie that you all enjoy on your own. Then you set up a time to discuss it. This is a fun way to get together and talk about something that you enjoy with one another. You can make this a regular occurrence and it’s based on a common like or interest.
  • Play music: If you are all musically talented then set up and have a jam session. You can pick a song and put together a great way of sharing in the music together.

For Work

  • Have theme days: This can be a fun way to unite even your professional contacts. You can do fun themed things like maybe funny costumes, fun competitions, or everyone brings in a song lyric they like. Pick a theme and then figure out fun ways to execute that by each day of the week.
  • Challenges:Find something that you could have competitions or challenges at as a group. It may be exercise, or making videos, or whatever helps you to unite and have fun as a group.
  • Meditation or team check ins on meetings: You can have some fun with the people you work with. You can also work together to find better mental health, and meditation or just a simple check in makes for a great way to do that.
  • Have a “speaker” come: You can connect this into just about any call or online event. You could invite a yoga instructor, have an exercise class, or have a speaker about an interesting topic.

These are all great ideas for staying connected in the various aspects of your life.

They will help you to stay on track, keep connected, and ensure that you stay positive and engaged which is always important.

What You Can Say To Keep The Connection Going

You know you want to stay connected but sometimes you may feel unsure of what to say to initiate this.

There are a few things that you can say to keep the connection going.

Even if you just want to see each other as it’s been awhile, these phrases can help tremendously.

  • “Hey guys, I think we should try _________________ today/this week.” It could be a book club, having a happy hour, having a theme work meeting, etc.
  • “Would you all be up for ________________?” It could be a virtual jam session, a game night, team meditation, or anything that you might enjoy together
  • “I know it’s not the same, but we could _________________.” It could be that you have a yoga instructor run a class, meditating together in the meeting, or something to bring you together

There are so many directions you could take this in, but it’s all about figuring out what to say to initiate things.

The idea is to say something to get the plans going and center it around what you enjoy doing together.

Takeaway

Communicating online may not be quite the same, but it is useful and can keep us connected to others.

You can use online communication or whatever you have available to you during a crisis or just in regular times.

You may find that you often lose touch with friends who live far away in a regular situation.

You may find that you talk to these friends more often during times of pandemic, and hope that continues beyond.

Think of ways to surprise people in a positive way to build your connection, and this can be useful and fun!
