"The English Adventurer"

Do people take you seriously?

Do they listen to you?

Do you know how to make sure people listen to you when you speak English?

Today you’ll find out how to do it!

How to get people to take you seriously:

  • “I mean it”: parents might say this to kids “I’ll turn this car around right now. I mean it!”
  • “I’m serious”: “She told me she wasn’t coming. I’m serious!” (I’m dead serious)
  • “I’m not kidding”: “That shirt is 50 dollars! I’m not kidding!”
  • “All jokes aside”: This can be used at the beginning of a sentence: “All jokes aside, I really think we should call her and apologize.”

Why would people not take us seriously?

Maybe we are using the wrong intonation or maybe we have a joking personality.
