Childhood on IELTS

This is a common topic everywhere on the IELTS Speaking exam.

You could get any of the following questions on IELTS Part 2:

  • Describe one of your childhood memories.
  • Describe a friend from your childhood.
  • Describe a game you played as a child.
  • Describe a place you visited in your youth. 
  • Describe a lesson you learned in your childhood.

#1: Youthful exuberance

This means the high energy, enthusiasm and excitement typical of young people.

  • I miss the youthful exuberance I had in high school.
  • My younger siblings are full of youthful exuberance.

#2: Boundless energy

This refers to seemingly endless physical or mental energy

  • As a child, I had boundless energy and never wanted to sleep.
  • Kids often have boundless energy compared to adults.

#3: Innate curiosity

This describes a natural desire to learn or explore that is present from birth

  • I’ve had an innate curiosity about languages since childhood.
  • Children usually show innate curiosity about how things work.

#4: Inquisitive

This adjective means eager to ask questions and learn.

  • One of my closest childhood friends was extremely inquisitive. He was always asking questions about how things worked and coming up with little experiments.
  • As a child, I was very inquisitive. I was constantly asking questions!
