Think about it:
Do you know what the biggest country in the world is?
(Russia)
Do you know what the smallest country in the world is?
(Vatican City)
Do you know what the third biggest country is?
No! You don’t! This is because no one cares about this fact!
This is exactly how you go about choosing numbers for a Static essay. Only choose the biggest and smallest numbers.
Why is this important?
If you don’t put any numbers in your essay, or if you put too many numbers in your essay, your Task Achievement score goes down to a 5!
The numbers you choose must support the overall trend. In a static essay, your overall trend simply states what the highest numbers are. For example, “Overall, Toyota was the most popular car in 2015.”

Some impressive vocabulary you could use to describe these important numbers:
- most preferred, most commonly chosen, most popular
- significantly, noticeably, considerably
The grammar structures you use will mostly be comparisons. For example:
- While Toyota happened to be the most popular automobile in 2015, Ford showed itself to be the least liked vehicle in this same year.
As a last note about numbers, remember that you should still mention the other categories on the Static chart, if they don’t have any important numbers.
This sentence should go at the end of your last paragraph, and can be summed up like, “Unsurprisingly, the other brands fell in the middle, in the the range of ….”
