  • autonomy, choice, risk

The idiom “in the eye of the beholder” is fantastic to describe the fact that opinions change according to a person’s perspective.

  • work your way up
  • these ideals
  • freedom of innovation
  • creating your own niche
  • the measure is the same
  • banal

Banal” is a great adjective describing something that is boring and super average.

Niche” describes a specialized corner of something, like a “niche market” is a specific audience for a product.

IELTS Question 3: Do you think a college degree is necessary for a high-paying job these days?

Notable parts of answer:

  • average to good paying job
  • detrimental
  • that’s a bit of a controversial opinion
  • hold us back
  • doing well financially

Taking a controversial standpoint is one way to stand out in front of the examiner, by choosing to take a view that is different than every other student.
