In today’s show, you’ll hear a sample part 2 answer about valuable objects.

Recently, we’ve spoken a lot about how to expand your answers by providing context.

In the Part 2 cards asking you to describe objects, you definitely have to do this in order to fill 2 minutes.

Today’s Speaking Part 2 card is:

Describe an object you own which is very important to you.

  • where you got it from
  • how long you’ve had it
  • what you use it for

Explain why it is important to you.

Now, you can use the bullet points on the card to help you start brainstorming.

However, don’t only depend on them to come up with ideas and organize your answer. That’s a rookie mistake!

Remember, the examiner doesn’t care of you use the bullet points or not.

If you’re only using those points, you won’t have enough to fill 2 minutes.

Plus, if you are only using those while you talk, your answer won’t sound fluent or coherent, as you’re just jumping from point to point.

Notes on Jessica’s Sample Answer

  • This topic is kinda funny for me personally.
  • I’ve not traditionally put a lot of stock into material items.
  • bulk coffee bag
  • rough in texture
  • bulk item
  • adorable… tiny
  • playing Uno
  • found these products gorgeous
  • products manufactures from… handbags, wallets
  • pieces of art in and of themselves

In Jessica’s answer, she didn’t have time to provide all the context she’d thought of!

Finally, when you take your Speaking Exam, don’t worry about time.

You must just keep talking until the examiner stops you. They keep track of the time carefully.

If you don’t fill the 2 minutes, you can’t get a 7 or higher for Fluency and Coherence.
