Hello from Hong Kong. Thank you for your presence on YouTube last night. I used to think I was a fairly good English speaker and user. It’s not until now that I knew I needed an 8 that I realized there’s always room for improvement. That’s how your channel and podcast came to my life… I need the IELTS result in 1 years’ time. I have a question that often bothers me. To impress examiners I try to use flowery sentence structures,… and I think it makes the message being delivered unclear. Please help me.

Basically, if you make the examiner stop reading for any reason, including grammar mistakes and run on sentences, it lowers your score.
For now, try to have sentences with only 2 clauses, and get really good at those sentences.
The thing is, you can get an 8, with a few complex and a few compound sentences, if they have few to no mistakes.
Be direct and straightforward with grammar, vocabulary and organization. Don’t take risks on test day!
