Today we’ll teach you how to avoid one kind of IELTS fail, and start preparing the right way for your next exam!

We have a case study for you today, about one listener who has been on a rough IELTS journey:

My situation is about failure, and I would like to fix it. I need to get no less than 6 on each part of the exam, and no less than 6.5 overall. The problem is, when I try to train one skill more intensively, the other ones are getting worse. What should I do? I have to work pretty hard in the office and I’m tired in the evenings. All I have for prep is 2-3 hours in the evenings and weekends. How should I organize my studying in the best way?

Firstly, 2-3 hours a day is plenty! As long as these hours are spend effectively and efficiently, you can do 2-3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, and be ready for the IELTS Exam.

The key is to follow a study plan. Make sure you are improving your overall English, as well as learning the testing skills you need.

Next, a 6 is totally doable!

This student has taken the test 3 times. In his email, he shares that the first try, he got 6 in Listening, 6.5 in Reading, 6 in Writing, and a 5.5 in Speaking. He mentions that he signed up for our course, but, in reality, he only visited 4 pages, only actually studying in the course twice.

Also, there are 30-day and 60-day study plans in the course, and those are all he would need to organize his time.

The second time he tried, he only focused on speaking. His Speaking score improved to a 7.5, his Reading score went down to a 4.5, and his Listening and Writing scores stayed the same.

Before his most recent attempt, he studied with 2 different teachers, and did not focus on Listening. His Writing stayed the same, his Speaking decreased, Listening went down to a 5.5, and his Reading increased to a 6.

The take away here is that his preparation is not organized, and you need to prepare for all sections in a coherent way.

Working with general English teachers is fine for improving fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation in speaking. However, only IELTS professionals can help increase all of your scores in each section.
