Today you’ll learn how to answer IELTS Speaking questions about writing.

Recently, a student contacted me about a difficult topic he faced in Part 1.

The topic was “writing“. It doesn’t seem hard on the face of it, but the questions were a bit weird.

These questions definitely stumped a lot of candidates recently.

Remember to stay flexible in your answers. For instance, the first question was about what types of things he wrote every day.

He didn’t know how to answer, so he said something about essays.

That’s not what the question was asking, though.

Remember, Part 1 is personal, about you and your daily life.

Question 1: What kinds of things do you write every day?

Notes from the answer:

  • to-do lists
  • check things off
  • gratitude journal
  • text messages
  • grocery lists

Listen to Lindsay’s emphasis on certain phrases.

Give your expression space- pauses and making words longer and louder are all features of 7+ pronunciation.

This also gives you more time to think.

Question 2: What kinds of things did you write as a child?

Notes from the answer:

  • homework/academic work, right?
  • short stories
  • elementary school/middle school
  • assignment book was like a Bible
  • learn discipline
  • mostly revolving around school
