The video is on a YouTube channel, Academic English Help, and it features a mock Speaking Exam.
This channel is by Adrian, who also has a website of the same name, helping students conquer IELTS and TOEFL, as well as helping students with immigration, CV’s and Statements of Purpose.
The YouTube channel began in 2011, and has over 430,000 subscribers! They also do live streams daily.
Adrian found that many students were asking about what occurs on IELTS Speaking interviews, and so that’s why he began featuring mock IELTS Speaking tests. Some even are of native speakers.
One of these videos is with a native-English speaking Canadian woman, who was scored at an 8.5, and has close to 5 million views.
The reason she didn’t get a 9 is because her communication wasn’t truly “expert level“.
A huge misconception among IELTS candidates is that it’s purely an English test. This is not exactly true.

Natives will most likely get 9’s in Pronunciation and Grammar, but where they’ll fall short is the Fluency/Coherence and Vocabulary categories.
For excellent Fluency and Coherence scores, your ideas must be very clearly, and cleanly organized, and supported with strong, specific details.
This would also affect the vocabulary scores, as using impressive, specific high-level vocabulary is not natural in daily life, but must be exhibited in the interview.
Speaking Part 2 also is definitely not natural, and so this must be practiced a lot before test day.
So, doing well on your IELTS Speaking Exam is not about being born speaking English.
It’s about knowing what to expect on test day, and practicing the skills that the examiner is listening for.
As far as pronunciation goes, it’s also not important to have a perfect accent. There’s no such thing!
