Today we have a fun topic! Recently Jessica traveled to Canada to take the IELTS Speaking Exam. Jessica is a former IELTS Examiner.

Why did she take the IELTS Exam?

She took the Computer IELTS Test to learn how it’s different from the Paper-based Test so that we can make our 3 Keys strategies even more powerful for you!

What happened on the Speaking Exam?

The Speaking Exam is done the same way in the Paper-based test and the Computer-based test.

Before the Speaking test the candidates had to sit outside the exam and wait without speaking for about twenty minutes.

After twenty minutes the Examiner came to get Jessica for the Speaking test. Jessica knew that she was being judged throughout the whole Speaking test.

Every single word that comes out of your mouth is being judged on the Speaking test and that’s why you need winning strategies.

The 3 Keys strategies worked!

The Speaking question that Jessica got was “Describe a time that you had to wake up early for something.”

Jessica’s goal in taking the test was to test out our 3 Keys strategies. She used our strategies in all parts including Speaking Part 2.

She started with a natural introduction to answer the question and told the story of getting up early to catch her flight that morning.

She also used the linking words in Speaking Part 2 that we give you in 3 Keys IELTS.

Her Speaking Part 3 question was weird. The Examiner extended the question to ask “How do shift workers think about sleep?”

The takeaway:

Use your energy. If you have nervous energy, make sure you don’t speak too fast. Be aware of what your energy is doing.

Also, nervous energy can sometimes help you stay focused and present so if that’s what’s happening then use it in a positive way.

Soon we’ll be back with another episode to talk about another section of Jessica’s IELTS Exam.
