In IELTS Speaking Part 2, it is common to receive a topic card that asks you to talk about a story.

This could be in the form of a book, article, movie, or TV show.

In the last video, we went through the definition of a drama, and I gave some of my personal recommendations for various kinds of drama series, such as family dramas and procedural dramas.

Today, I’ll talk for 2 minutes about my favorite TV show of all time– Supernatural.

It’s been on for 12 seasons, or 12 years, and I’ve been with it every step of the way.

When you choose a series to talk about in Speaking Part 2, you should talk about something personal to you, that you feel connected to in some way.

This will ensure a dynamic response, filling the 2 minutes fluently, and making it easier for you to use expressive pronunciation.

As you watch today’s video, take notes on any interesting, specific vocabulary that I use, and transition phrases that naturally serve to organize my ideas.

The structure I’ll follow can be used for any topic card about a story:

  • Give details of the show (plot, characters)
  • Say why you like it
  • Talk about a favorite episode, diving into details of the story

Then, watch the sample answer again. Try to mimic the way I speak, focusing on the expressive aspects.

After you choose a drama series, in English, to get into, watch 4-5 episodes. Then, practice talking about it using today’s structure for 2 minutes.
