The first thing you must do is book a test date. Then, you’ll know how long you have to prepare.

This is vital- you need a timeline to stick to, and a clear and definitive end goal in place.

Then, create a schedule for yourself. In our course, we have 30-day and 60-day study plans. However, you could create a study plan for yourself for anywhere between one month and six months.

Now, this is important. Don’t let yourself study IELTS more than 5-6 days a week, and never for more than 3 hours a day.

Our brains cannot process so much new information or practice. In order to be at your peak while studying, doing your best and staying confident, you simply cannot study for more than that.

Then, divide your time into the four modules- Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. I would devote more time to Writing, and divvy out the rest of the time equally between the other three modules.

As for Speaking, though, you do need to start speaking English on a consistent basis immediately. This is vital to improving your fluency and comfort for the Speaking exam. Schedule yourself at least once a week speaking practice- with a friend, study partner, or even by yourself in the mirror.

Then, for each module’s practice, further balance your preparation between IELTS test skills and overall improvement. You need both in order to get high scores for test day.

For example, you could do one hour learning about and practicing diagram completion for the Listening exam, and then spend the next two hours watching a movie. You could watch half of it with subtitles, and the other half without, to improve overall comprehension.

Above all, your future IELTS success depends on your personal organization and hard work. With the right amount of dedication and a solid IELTS professional to teach you the strategies, you can definitely get the scores you need on your next exam!
