Here is the second paragraph of my essay answering this question:
As to the primary importance of music, I feel it is helps individuals access their feelings and emotions in ways that they would be unable to otherwise. Take instrumental music, for instance. There is a reason why this genre is often used as a soundtrack for key scenes in movies, namely that the emotion which is added by the instrumentation goes beyond what the actors are doing, and the audience feels more deeply with the music attached. The most famous scene of the movie Philadelphia serves as an illustration, in which Tom Hanks is not saying a word, merely holding out his arms and crying, but the music of the scene causes viewers to cry uncontrollably as well.
