IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System, and it is run by the British Council and IDP.
There are two versions– General, usually for immigration, and Academic, usually for attending a university. If you don’t know which version you should take, contact the institution or organization that is asking you to take the test.
IELTS has four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
The first three usually take place in the morning, and take about 3 hours. The Speaking test may be the same day, or it might be scheduled in the 7 days before or after the exam date.
Listen to IELTS Energy episode 540 for an interview with a real IELTS invigilator to find out more about what happens on test day.
Test centers may offer the exam between 1 and 4 times a month, and the price may range from $215 to $240.
