These strategies will also help you stay on track and get back on track if you get lost.
Option #1: Work with a speaking partner
You can prepare the activity we’re modeling today for a speaking partner.
Ask them to prepare one for you as well!
Step 1: Listen to a podcast or other audio recording. If it’s a video, be sure to listen without watching to practice for IELTS audio where you will have no visual cues.
Step: 2: Pull out 4-5 interesting words or phrases.
Step 3: Look up and write down synonyms or parallel expressions for these phrases.
Step 4: Provide these synonyms along with the audio clip to your speaking partner. They should be in order in the audio.
Step 5: Challenge them to listen for the words or phrases in the text that match the synonyms. If they miss one, practice not panicking and listening for the next one.

Audio for this activity
Here is a transcript of the audio provided in the podcast episode:
Trees play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. One of their most important functions is absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen through a process called photosynthesis. This helps reduce the impact of climate change. Trees also provide habitats for many species of birds, insects, and small mammals, making them essential for biodiversity. In addition, their roots stabilize the soil, which helps prevent erosion during heavy rain. Because of these environmental benefits, governments and environmental organizations around the world are increasingly encouraging large-scale tree-planting projects.
