I enjoyed listening to the Bonus episode “ De-clutter Your Life”, and I just love the All Ears English site. I am very curious about the phrase “be zen” in your conversation. Could you tell me how to use this phrase?

Also I would love to hear some more phrases related to zen, meditation, yoga, and other related topics in our daily lives. This is interesting to me, and I would like to know how to talk about it.

What Does It Mean and How Do We Use It?

So what does it mean to be zen?

You might have heard this term used for those who are Buddhist?

One way we use it more conversationally is just to mean be calm.

This is about being more inward or inside our heads and thoughts, really it means to be more reflective.

 Everything is going on all around you, but you are finding zen within yourself.

You are finding ways to relax and detach from the stress.

There are some good examples of how you can talk about this in conversation.

“I am feeling totally zen when I read my book at the end of the day.”

“I get a feeling of pure zen when I do yoga in the morning.”

As you can see this is a very common topic, and one that is bound to come up in conversation a lot.

You may want to find your ways of finding that zen feeling, and you also want to know how to talk about this.

You will find that this is a great topic for making connections too, and so it’s an important thing to focus on.

Other Great Words To Use In This Conversation

Since this is such a huge topic and focus within this culture, you will find that there are many words to use in talking about it.

Zen is a feeling or state of mind, but there are plenty of ways to get there or to talk about refocusing and relieving your stress.

Here are some other great words to talk about getting away from the stress and finding that peaceful feeling of zen.

  • Mantra: We have spoken about “mantra” before as it’s something you say over and over to motivate yourself or to feel peace. It may be something as simple as “everything will be okay. Everything will be okay.” You might say something like “I will make it through this moment.” A mantra is something that you say to yourself when you need to relax and focus on something positive. It’s like your trigger to step away and refocus.
  • Let go: This is used often and it means just letting go or getting rid of any stress or negative thoughts. It’s all about breathing in and then letting go of negativity or just letting your thought pass by. It can be helpful to think of it as if you notice your thoughts as they occur but do not spend time on them. You might say “When I do yoga I can let go of all my pent up stress”
  • Notice the breath: You will hear this often in yoga and meditation. You will often hear “breathe in, and breathe out” to start things off. Notice the breath is paying attention to it and sometimes only your breath. This helps you release tension and notice breathing rather than worries that overtake you.
  • Aura: This is how it feels to be around someone. It’s the energy that they give off, and we all do it. So you might give off a really positive energy to others. You may come across people that give off or have a negative aura. You could say “She has a very calming aura. She sends out such positive vibes.”

There are so many words used to describe a feeling of zen.

These are just a few that can help you to focus on positive energy in your life.

These words are important in conversations, and they can lead you to making connections too.

How You Can Be More Zen In Your Life

We all have stress in our life, and there’s a good chance that sometimes the stress gets the best of you.

When you feel that stress or negative feelings creeping in, you want a way to shut it out and to focus on the positive.

This is where things like meditation and yoga can help you to be more zen.

There are even ways to positively deal with the stress that you feel in your life in the moment.

If you are trying to figure out ways to be more zen, there are some helpful things that you can do in your life.

Though yoga and meditation are all great ideas, you can also learn a few simple but effective things to help you to focus and be more zen.

  • Focus on one thing and let everything else go. This may sound harder than it actually is. When you’re stressed out it’s often because you have too many things going on at once. An example is that you could focus on connection in the moment. Try to focus on using one vocabulary word word at a time. Focus on ONE goal rather than trying to accomplish too many things at once. This helps to take the stress out and allows you to really focus on the task at hand.
  • Let go of your stress! Oftentimes you may find that your stress is worse in your head. Like you build things up and have unrealistic expectations of yourself. You can manage your stress and help to lessen it, but it must be a conscious choice. When you feel like things are getting out of control, just let it go. Take all the stress and just let go of it so that you can get some peace of mind.
  • Have a mantra! This is your own special saying that you can repeat to yourself when you need to. It helps you to reset and focus on something that brings you positive energy. You might say something like “I will connect today.” When the need arises, you can repeat this to yourself in your mind and it serves as a positive reminder.
  • Figure out what works best for you to relieve stress. You may have something completely different that helps you to reset and refocus. Take the time to figure out what helps you to relax so that it can work for you. It may be yoga, or meditation, or exercise, or even just taking deep breaths. Once you figure out what yours is, you can get to a much more positive mindset.

These are all great ways to achieve a more zen mindset.

If you want to shut out the world and focus on something positive, then these are a great way to do just that.
