Should you always tell the server to change the order?

It’s a personal choice.

You might make your decision based on how long the line is if you are in a coffee shop or deli.

You could judge how stressed out or busy the server is.

Every situation is different.

If you decide to ask the server to change the order after it arrives then you need the right phrases.

Phrases to change your order without being rude:

  • Oh my gosh I’m sorry I meant to ask for an iced coffee.
  • I apologize but I wanted an iced coffee, not a hot coffee
  • Oh my bad. I thought I ordered chicken but I actually ordered steak. Can I change my order to chicken?
  • Is it too late to change  my order?

Your tone of voice is important when you ask the server to change your order.

Remember, you don’t always need to just stick with what you got if it’s not what you wanted.

Many times it’s okay to change the order but use the right phrases that we have given you today.
