Do you think people are less original today than when you were young?
Today we’ll brainstorm a difficult IELTS question from December 2025.
We’ll then share band 9 body paragraphs for this complex question.
Today’s IELTS Writing Task 2 topic
This essay question was reported by a student who took IELTS in December 2025.
Some people today argue that media has become increasingly unoriginal.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The initial stage of brainstorming is the most crucial phase of writing.
That is because this is where all of your ideas and body paragraph structure come from.
When searching for ideas to include in your essay, think about personal experience and societal observations first.
This can make it easy to come up with specific details.
You only have 5 minutes for the brainstorm, so don’t waste precious time trying to think of the perfect idea or example.
Write down the first good idea that comes to mind!
Brainstorm of first body paragraph
For the first body paragraph, you will brainstorm a reason to agree.
The first idea we came up with is that people are unoriginal on social media, following trends for content ideas and using trending music.
This is the key idea, which should always be put at the top of your brainstorm.
You must stay focused on the test question for a 7+ on the Task Response score.
Example: When Taylor Swift released her latest album, TikTok was flooded with videos of people dancing to her song “Opalite.”
TikTok reported that 3 million videos were made using this song.
This is an accurate statistic, but if you don’t know the number, you can make it up.
You can create statistics for IELTS essays as long as they are believable.
Brainstorm of first body paragraph
In this second body paragraph, you’ll share a reason to disagree.
In this case, this paragraph is where we share our opinion.
For this paragraph, our idea is that everyone still seeks to be original.
There are far more videos of something new because people want to be trend-setters.
Example: 34 million videos are posted every day on TikTok and the majority of it is original content.
Details: Life hacks, creative new cooking shortcuts, and original songs are posted often.
Even videos using a trend add their own take and make it something new.

Body paragraph 1
One reason many people believe the media is becoming unoriginal is the influence of trends on social media platforms, where the same content is endlessly replicated. In particular, apps encourage users to create different versions of the same video using identical sounds, which limits originality. As a shining example, when Taylor Swift released her latest album, TikTok was flooded with videos of people dancing to her song “Opalite.” Rather than producing unique ideas, around three million videos were created using the same choreography and this single sound.
Take notice of the high-scoring vocabulary.
Avoid repetition by using synonyms and paraphrase.
Linking phrases are also a must for the Cohesion/Coherence score.
In this paragraph, note these linking phrases:
- In particular
- As a shining example
- Rather than producing unique ideas
Body paragraph 2
Nevertheless, I believe that the media is still overwhelmingly original, as most creators actively strive to produce fresh content. In fact, the vast majority of videos introduce new ideas because users are eager to become trend-setters. TikTok alone sees around 34 million videos posted every day, and most of these showcase innovative ideas such as life hacks, creative cooking shortcuts, and even newly composed songs. Moreover, even when creators participate in a trend, they typically add their own perspective, humor, or cultural twist, effectively transforming a shared format into something distinctive.
Take note of how the ideas from our brainstorm are used to create a well-organized and high scoring paragraph.
Linking phrases used:
- Nevertheless
- In fact
- Moreover
- Effectively
