In today’s episode, I talk to Kendy Shirasu from Brazil all about IELTS Speaking Part 2.
Although Kendy has an impressive level of English, he was still struggling in this section.
In Speaking Part 2, you must speak for 2 minutes.
To nail that 7 or higher here, you must not only fill the 2 minutes, but your speech must be coherent and organized.
The best piece of advice to do this?
Don’t bother with the bullet points!
Yes, that’s right. Do not even read them. The examiner does not care if you cover those.

How bullet points ruin your Speaking Part 2 Score:
- They waste time when you are planning. You only have a minute to take notes before you speak. You should use that minute wisely by focusing only on the topic (i.e. Describe an artist you admire)
- When planning, focus on our IELTS Energy strategies.
- So, for describing people, for example, organize your brainstorm with details about what the person looks like, his/her personality, and a story about this person.
- We also have strategies for describing objects, events/experiences and places.
- When it was Kendy’s turn to start speaking, he would forget about his notes. He would instead just glance at the bullet points. This lead to an unorganized answer, and he didn’t have enough to say.
- When it is your turn to start speaking in Part 2, use your notes!
- Glance down occasionally, alternating between your notes and making confident eye-contact with the examiner.
The most important preparation for Speaking Part 2?
