Fluency and Coherence
For your Fluency and Coherence score, you must be able to speak for the full 2 minutes.
You also must speak without pauses or hesitation.
Additionally, you need to use transition phrases in the correct context.
Aubrey used these in her sample answer:
- Without a doubt
- In addition
- Habitually
- However
- Presumably

Vocabulary
High level, less common vocabulary must be used.
Instead of “very,” use “horribly.”
Use conundrum and quandary instead of problem or difficulty.
You don’t want to use vocabulary other students use all the time.
You must use less common words and phrases that will impress the Examiner!
Grammar
You must use a full range of grammatical structures.
Use simple, compound and complex sentences.
You also can’t make too many mistakes.
Make sure your verb tense matches whether you are talking about something that:
- Happened in the past
- Is happening in the present
- Will happen in the future
Pronunciation
A range of pronunciation features is needed to score a 7 or higher.
Let emotion sound in your voice.
Emphasize adjectives and other words which show how you feel.
I find it absolutely heartbreaking!
The last thing I would do is stand right next to someone!
