How are IELTS Speaking questions chosen?
One of our YouTube subscribers asked us where they could find the Speaking cue cards for Dubai.
There are new Examiner booklets that are released frequently.
In this booklet, Examiners have many questions to choose from.
These questions are for every part of the Speaking exam.
- Part 1
- Part 2
- Part 3
Therefore, Examiners are not required to ask specific, designated questions.
Because they are able to choose, different questions will be asked during every Speaking exam.

Details about Writing questions
The same exact Writing questions are given all over the world.
If you’re taking the test in Japan, you will have the same Writing questions as someone in Portland, Oregon.
They are different each week.
However, on a specific date they are the same all over the world.
Should you look for recent Speaking Part 2 cards?
Searching for recent test questions is not the best use of your time.
You’re not going to see those exact questions when you take the test.
Rather than searching for recent cue cards, spend that time in better ways!
- Practice speaking
- Practice high level vocabulary
- Practice using slang
- Practice using filler phrases
How are test centers different?
All test centers follow the same rules.
The test is the same and how it is administered is the same.
However, there are varying degrees of quality.
The sound quality for the Listening exam might be worse in some test centers.
Call the test center and ask any questions you want to know.
Alternatively, you can find someone who has taken the IELTS exam at the same place you will take it.
They will be able to give you the best, most recent information.
Should you spend time looking for information about test centers?
You have to put in the time necessary to get a 7 or higher.
Because so much time is required, you have to be intentional about what you spend time on.
Think about what is the best use of your time.
It is likely not spending time finding out about test centers.
How should you spend your time to actually increase your IELTS scores?
Make sure everything you do is directly related to the scoring system.
For every part of your study, you should know how it will increase your score.
Be strategic and learn strategies that will improve your score.
Get into a system like 3 Keys IELTS so you know you will be successful.
Takeaway

There is no way to know in advance which questions you will face.
Therefore, it’s a waste of time to try!
