#1: Overall comprehension
First, read the news article for overall comprehension.
Read for the gist, or the main idea.
Don’t stop to look up vocabulary.
Don’t worry about words you don’t know, and look for overall meaning.
#2: Summarize
Write a short summary of the article in your own words.
Don’t look back at the article!
This will help you determine how much you understood.
A few sentences will suffice.

Go back to the article and choose 4 new vocabulary words or phrases.
Write them in your vocabulary notebook.
