Which scores are affected by the thesis and how?

#1: Task Response

  • A thesis statement is necessary for your response to be considered “well-developed.”

#2: Cohesion/Coherence

  • Must organize information logically
  • The thesis is the ‘map’ for the essay
  • It shows the Examiner how your essay will be organized

Should your essay be interesting?

Whether your essay is interesting to the Examiner is not part of your score.

It is very subjective what the Examiner will find interesting.

It is more important that your essay is clear and accurate rather than ‘interesting.’

If by ‘interesting’ this listener meant that it has ‘impressive vocabulary, then yes!

Using less common and impressive vocabulary is a must for your Vocabulary score!
