What do you suggest in trying to improve your English after IELTS? I’d like to improve my overall English and I don’t know how to do it. I live and work in a country where English is consistently spoken, but I would like more.
I’d like to focus on maybe improving the grammar, pronunciation, and grammar as I speak. What ideas do you have? I tend to forget it as I speak sometimes.
So can you offer any help with this? I know that we always say that we don’t have to practice just our grammar, but I want to try to remember.
Thank you and I hope this question can help all the listeners!
Combining Focused Learning and Conversations
Speaking the language is huge, but so is focused learning.
A textbook is just one way to do it, but it can help a lot.
You still need to focus on the language and grammar does matter.
While we say that you don’t want to focus just on grammar, it can help you from making the same mistakes.
Remind yourself of the basics and the common rules–this can be done through websites, textbooks, and other good learning sources.
The More Exposure The Better
You are going to start noticing new grammar usage when you combine focused learning and conversations with natives.
It’s all about exposing yourself to a lot of English all the time.
That’s the only way that you are going to acquire the language–you want it to surround you again and again.
You may forget new words if you don’t use them often enough.
Focused learning and studying helps you with the basics and then conversations help to fill in the blanks.
Even try something like Netflix because there are some great options and you can use the many English titles to help you to enjoy this part of learning.
Find Creative Ways To Learn
Yes grammar is an important part of learning English.
We don’t want you to focus only on this way of learning, but focused studying can help.
That doesn’t have to come only from a textbook–as you can see there are a variety of ways to learn in this way.
Find what works for you and use it to create your best way of learning.
Takeaway
If you want to improve your grammar or other fundamentals then it’s all about focused learning.
This may come from a textbook, but there are more effective and creative ways to focus on this aspect of learning English.
Find the ways that work best for you and use them to your advantage.
This focused learning and practice in conversations will help you to overcome the things that you may have previously had a hard time in remembering or mastering.
