Today we have a guest on the show!
John uses a special method called Direct Method when he teaches his English students.
Today he’ll show you what it is, how to use it, and how it will make you more comfortable in English immediately.
He’ll also show you how to learn English on your own and how to get more confident with creating your own learning system.
How to create your own learning system:
- Step 1: Get a good book that is designed for self learning. John recommends English Grammar In Use. You can find it any online store. You can use this independently or the teacher can use it with you. The book explains grammar in the Direct Method style by using examples. John recommends that you learn grammar in this way.
- Step 2: Get a strategy plan: You need a plan so that you can follow it and measure your progress. It’s important that you study regularly. John’s strategy plan has three parts:
- Use the exercises in the book every day if you can. Try to schedule it at the same time every day. You can do the exercises by yourself and say them out loud. If you hear your own voice when you speak it will help you to get a feeling for the language.
- Find listening practice like You Tube clips.
- Next, plan speaking practice. It’s best if you can interact with native speakers. Use social networks like Facebook to speak English.
- Step 3: Get a tutor from time to time: You will need some feedback at some point. When you’re working alone all of the time you might get lonely. Your tutor can check your progress. He can listen to you and see how you put sentences together. You might be making the same mistakes over and over again and your tutor will point that out to you. Your tutor should get you to speak right away during the lesson. The entire lesson should be held in the target language.
- Step 4: Stick to it and don’t give up. It might be hard at first but after a while you will get used to your new schedule.
John’s Bio:
Hi everybody, I’m John. I am an English teacher, language enthusiast, and ‘travel as much as I can’ guy. Growing up in a bilingual family I discovered my love for languages, so I decided to study English and become a teacher. Since then I’ve been teaching and traveling as much as I can and learning other languages. I’ve never stopped being a learner as well as a teacher. What I have learned over the years I will be happy to share with you in my interactive classes. I’d be happy to see you soon!
