Who is Steve Henneberry?
In today’s episode, Lindsay’s guest is Steve Henneberry.
He is a former American Gladiator.
He grew up in Wisconsin and became a successful bodybuilder at a young age.
Shortly after he won the Mr. America title in 1989, he moved to Los Angeles to start a modeling and acting career.
He landed on the cover of Muscle and Fitness magazine and appeared in popular American TV shows like “Married with Children” and the WB sitcom “Muscle.”
However, it was his participation in American Gladiators as Tower that made Steve a true American household name.
Steve also happens to be Lindsay’s father-in-law.
Lindsay asks Steve when he realized that fitness is the true core value in his life.
Steve answers that it is a lifestyle.
Steve’s journey
Steve discovered fitness when he was around 15 or 16 years old.
He bought a Muscle and Fitness magazine in 1979 and the current Mr. America was on the cover.
He wondered what it felt like to be Mr. America.
He visualized it but he didn’t share that goal with a lot of people because he didn’t want to be laughed at.
He worked diligently for ten years to achieve that goal and he then won Mr. America.
Fitness has been definitely the core value throughout his life.
He may not be intense with his training and diet always but he was always moving towards maintaining his health.
He became a household name and a lot of Americans know him because of American Gladiators.
He has a Netflix documentary that will be released on June 28, 2023.
The title is Muscles and Mayhem.
It’s a six-part docu-series that will show the life of the original American Gladiator.
Fitness and life success
Charles Duhigg, author of the book Habits coined the term ‘keystone habits.’
These are habits that change our lives for the better.
They create a ripple effect on our entire lifestyle.
Lindsay asks Steve how exercise and fitness have translated into his life and business success.
Everything correlates in life with habits.
Steve Henneberry will share three C’s which he attributes most of his success to.
#1: Commitment
Your level of commitment is important in everything in your life.
If you can’t commit to something, you won’t be very successful.
Steve takes raising kids as an example.
If you aren’t committed to being a good parent when disciplining your kids, they may grow up to be very difficult people.
The same goes for sticking to a healthy diet or a workout routine.
You won’t be able to reach your fitness goals if you’re not committed to putting in the work.
There is no fast ticket to achieving success.
Looking for ways to get instant gratification will not last in the long term.
You have to commit to that path no matter what.
Steve shares that he commits to his morning routine.
He and his wife will wake up before 5 a.m. and make sure they work out in the afternoon by 5 p.m.
They rarely attend social gatherings in the evening which would derail their routine.
#2: Consistency
Steve mentions that a lot of people get motivated once they see results.
To be able to see results, you have to be consistent.
Steve shares that he must stay consistent in his eating habits.
He needs to eat eight times a day to be able to achieve his fitness goals.
He then must attend the gym consistently to convert the meals to muscle.
It doesn’t matter if there is muscle soreness, he has to keep to his routine.
Discipline is the key factor to his success.
#3: Career
A successful career is what most people seek.
The most important thing in life is to do something that makes you happy.
Having consistency and commitment can make you successful in your career.
If you choose to do something, you must be disciplined to excel in that career.
If you commit to doing something and being consistent, you will have a rewarding career.
Steve is now in the real estate business.
Most of the success he has now is due to the efforts and habits he built in his past fitness career.
All the discipline he has, he pours into whatever career he chooses.
One thing will lead to another and it will always start with being disciplined.
Takeaway
The commitment that Steve made in Wisconsin when he was younger has led him into a successful career and life.
It all started with a desire to achieve something.
He remained disciplined and consistent in reaching his goals.
The advice he shared in this episode will motivate you to start a habit that will pave the way for you to achieve your dreams.
