When does IELTS make changes to its exam?

IELTS is a highly regulated exam, and, from time to time, they make administrative changes that seem minute.

These changes often don’t really affect you, the candidate.

However, sometimes they do!

Change #1: Parts instead of Sections

The first change for 2020 IELTS Listening is that they are using the word Parts now, instead of Sections.

So, there are 4 parts on the Listening test, instead of 4 sections.

That doesn’t affect you, the student, in the least.

The content is still the same.

Change #2: No more page numbers

The second change is that they are not going to reference page numbers anymore.

Again, this doesn’t matter at all.

They’ll still, of course, have the question numbers.

Change #3: No more example

The final alteration is that they will no longer present you with an example in Listening Part 1 on the paper version.

The computer-delivered IELTS test already omitted this, so, now the paper version is as well.

This does matter for you!

Previously, this example allowed some extra time for your brain to warm up and get into the flow of the test.

Now, however, the conversation will just begin and you must start keeping track and answering questions right away.

How can you prepare to be ready for these changes?

The thing is, if you have a solid system of strategies, like the 3 Keys IELTS strategies, you will be ready for this.

We teach you how to get focused immediately, and, more importantly, how to stay focused and keep track on the Listening test.

To ensure high Listening scores, make sure you’re learning solid strategies like ours, practicing them regularly, and improving your overall English at the same time, with podcasts made for natives.

That’s a lot to organize on your own, and that’s why our students say our 3 Keys study plan is the perfect study companion.

Three changes were made to the IELTS Listening exam starting January 2020.

Two of these won’t affect you, but the third will!

You need to be prepared to not have an example and extra time to think like you have had on practice tests and previous IELTS exams.

Join our 3 Keys IELTS Success System so that you are the first to know about which changes matter and the strategies you need to be prepared.
