Sample answers

In today’s video, Jessica provides sample native answers to the questions about public facilities and attractive areas.

Listen to the YouTube video to hear native intonation.

You must be varying your intonation to get a 7 or higher on your Pronunciation score.

Practice mimicking the answers in these YouTube videos.

Listen to a sentence or two and then pause the video.

Repeat what you heard, using the same intonation and pronunciation.

This will help you practice native, natural intonation and improve your Pronunciation score.

How can you increase your score in IELTS Speaking Part 1?

Begin your answer with an informal filler, just like a native.

For instance, you can begin by saying:

  • “Yeah, for sure, totally. There are tons of stunning places near my apartment.”

For a Band 7 or higher, you must be communicating more like a native English speaker, and less like a student.

Natives use fillers to introduce our ideas constantly!

Provide specific details

Also, remember to be specific in your answers, even in IELTS Speaking Part 1.

In the video, you’ll see that Jessica gives very specific examples in both answers.

Don’t share general information and then stop.

Answer the questions:

  • who
  • what
  • where
  • why
  • how

These answers will allow you to share great details!

Takeaway

To get a higher score on Speaking Part 1, use informal fillers and share details!

Practice these two tips weekly.

You’ll then be on your way to a Band 7 or higher on your next IELTS Speaking test!
