Top three travel tips from Jared
Jared has been doing this for several years.
He has always shared how people can go out and travel without breaking the bank.
- breaking the bank: spending a lot of money
His tips will help ensure you make the most out of your next travel plans.
#1: Use Google Flights
Google Flights is the site recommended by Jared for finding flights.
This free tool is the best he has found for finding flights that are cheap.
Google is aggregating all the data available online which can help you save.
He also recommends booking directly with the airline.
Involving a third-party platform will make altering flights harder.
It also often adds fees compared to booking directly with the airline.
Google Flights gives you a good comparison of all available flights for the destination you’re looking at.
#2: Flight first
This may require rethinking the way you travel.
The first step should be finding a cheap flight before you decide where to go.
Once you have booked an inexpensive flight, you can then let that guide you in planning the rest of your trip.
This is the best way to stay within a travel budget.
Book flights early
Jared doesn’t recommend last-minute bookings.
It is best to book three to six months in advance to get the cheapest option.
Another tip is to set up an alert for cheap flights.
You can link your Gmail to Google Flights to get these alerts.
Most flights are now more expensive than a few years ago.
Due to this, it is best to have an open mind and be flexible with your planning.
Look for the cheapest flight first and then continue planning from there.
#3: Book to fly on a day that is not busy
The least expensive days to travel are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
These days will often have flights that are 30% – 40% cheaper than usual.
Red-eyes can also be cheap flight times.
- red-eye: a flight late at night
Jared says he no longer flies at these times because it is very difficult for him nowadays due to his age.
Lindsay asks Jared if the rumor about booking the tickets on Tuesdays or Thursdays is true.
She mentions that there are people saying if you book your ticket on these days they will show cheaper flights.
Jared says this is definitely a rumor as of today because it was a long time ago when airlines would put out available flights every Tuesday.
We have gone more digital now so this is no longer applicable.
Takeaway
Traveling is a great way to expand your perspective.
Jared’s tips will help you update your travel playbook and book your flights without spending too much.
You will save money if you’re strategic in planning your trips.
