What to listen for in today’s sample Part 3 answers
As mentioned, for the Vocabulary score you must show a range.
Therefore, for Part 3 answers you will be more serious.
This will show up in your vocabulary and intonation, as well as the transition phrases you choose.
You’ll also notice that we answer with personal examples.
Students often think they can’t do this in Part 3 because it’s too informal.
That isn’t true!
As long as you’re using a more formal tone and vocabulary, you can definitely use personal examples.
This makes it more natural and real.
It also makes it easier to come up with details!
Question #1: How popular is watching television in your country?
Listen to Aubrey’s answer for native intonation and stress.
Notice how quickly she makes it personal.
She also uses great vocabulary, like “sanction.”
- sanction: a limit or control placed on something
Question #2: Tell me about the types of television shows available in your country
Jessica knew it wouldn’t be ideal to list a few shows, as it would be difficult to use high level vocabulary.
Instead, she talked about how different television watching is today than in the past.
This gave her the opportunity to use native intonation and uncommon vocabulary.
Question #3: What effects can watching television have on children?
Jessica immediately talks about the controversy involved.
She talks about how it’s different for each child, as some process information differently.
She then shares a personal experience about watching television with her son.
She doesn’t worry about what the Examiner wants to hear.
Instead, she shares her opinions and thoughts naturally.
