Where will you see this topic on IELTS?

This topic could definitely come up on your IELTS Speaking Exam.

In Speaking Part 1, you could be asked about your free time, or, more specifically, games you enjoy playing.

In Speaking Part 2, you could be asked about an indoor game you played as a child, or even one you like playing now.

Here are three options for what to talk about.

#1 Video games

If you describe a video game, talk about the type of console or game system you use, even describing the controllers and the buttons.

As to the game, describe, in detail, the characters, the objective, and the setting.

Also, you can talk about the ‘boss fight’ that usually takes place before you ‘level up’ in a game.

To get more ideas about the video game you like to play, read about it in English and learn specific vocabulary.

#2 Board games

There are millions of board games to talk about.

Jessica’s family likes to play cooperative strategy games, where you work with each other to plan and accomplish tasks.

However, competitive games are also fun.

When describing the game, talk about what the game pieces look like, the objective, and the rules.

Then, tell the story of the last time you remember playing this game, including who you were with, and where you were.

#3 Active games

If you’re a parent, you take part in ‘playing pretend’, or games that use your imagination.

For instance, you might play that you have to survive a zombie apocalypse.

When describing an imaginary game like this, talk about how you ‘transformed your space into another world’, and what that world was like.

This is a very creative endeavor, and should lead to a very interesting, and high scoring, descriptive answer.
