AEE Secrets to Real Listening Bonus 6: How to Have More Profound Conversations in English

American culture English course homelessness in the US

Today you’ll hear about our experience interviewing homeless people in Portland, Oregon.

You’ll also find out why it’s this kind of conversation that you can engage in to feel more connected with other English speakers.

The issue of homelessness in the United States is complicated.

Jessica and Lindsay met up in Portland in June and hit the pavement. They interviewed people on the streets, professionals and volunteers inside the shelters, and even local residents on their points of view on having so much homelessness in Portland.

How did we feel about the experience?

Jessica felt dejected and sad. We found out that there are so many resources and programs that are not being taken advantage of.

A lot of people choose to be homeless in Portland and they told us that.

The weather in Portland and also San Francisco make it easier to be homeless there than in places like Boston and New York.

In our course you’ll meet the people that we met in Portland.

You’ll get to hear their stories. The course will be released this fall.
